Michael Jeffrey Jordan, also known by his initials MJ, is a former American professional basketball player who is the principal owner of the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association. He played 15 seasons in the NBA, winning six championships with the Chicago Bulls.

It was created for Michael Jordan, former NBA player and six-time NBA Finals MVP. The original Air Jordan sneakers were produced exclusively for Michael Jordan in early 1984 and released to the public in late 1984. The shoes were designed for Nike by Peter Moore, Tinker Hatfield, and Bruce Kilgore.
